Where can I get a toll tag?

Getting an electronic toll tag and opening an account is easy. To open a TxTag account go online to www.TxTag.org call the Customer Service Center at 1-888-GoTxTag (1-888-468-9824). TxTags are also available at Tyler area Brookshire's and Super 1 Foods.

Can I save money if I get a toll tag?

Yes. You can save 25% off the cost of tolls by getting a TxTag account. The toll rates for Pay By Mail customers are higher in order to offset the costs related to processing the license plate information. In addition, drivers without toll tags are charged a $1 administrative fee on each monthly bill.

How often will I be billed?

If you have a TxTag account, your tolls will be deducted automatically from your account when you use the road. If you do not have a TxTag, you will receive a bill every month that you carry a balance.

What is the $1 charge on my bill?

A $1 fee is applied to each monthly bill sent to customers without a TxTag. The fee helps offset the costs related to processing the Pay By Mail bills. The bill fee is $1 regardless of how many times you use the road each month.

Do I have to pay if someone else was driving my car on the toll road?

Yes. The vehicle owner is responsible for any toll charges, regardless of who was driving. If you are concerned about a bill, please call the TxTag Customer Service Center at 1-888-468-9824.

What if I sell my vehicle?

If you have a TxTag, please call the Customer Service Center right away to deactivate your tag so your account is not linked to a vehicle you no longer own. Also, visit the Department of Motor Vehicles website if you need to transfer the vehicle registration to the new owner, so you are not billed for new toll charges.

I think the bill I received from Texas Tollways is incorrect. What should I do?

To discuss a bill, contact the TxTag Customer Service Center at 1-888-468-9824.

I am a TxTag, TollTag, or EZ TAG customer. Why did I get a bill?

  1. You could receive a bill if your tag was not read and the license plate on file for your tag does not match the license plate on your vehicle.
  2. You could receive a bill if the credit card information on file with your account is not up-to-date.
  3. If you're a TxTag customer, you could receive a bill requesting payment if you did not have enough money in your account to cover the cost of your tolls.

What is the process for collecting overdue bills?

For drivers without a TxTag, payments are due 15 days from the bill date. Any unpaid balances 60 days or older may be sent to a collection agency.

Who has access to the license plate information that TxDOT collects to issue bills?

TxDOT understands the privacy concerns of its customers and will protect your private information. State law and TxDOT policy prohibit the sale or transfer of license plate and vehicle registration information for marketing and other unauthorized uses.
